Dear Helen (and all staff at RUFF),
On behalf of Tommy, I want to personally thank you for your immese support for Tommy. Tommy's last day on this Earth could have been September 5, 2006 when he was hit by a car and left in the middle of the road to end his life. Many bystanders who saw him thought he was not alive... and they contacted the shelter to pick him up. When the shelter workers came to the accident scene, they saw Tommy... eyes open, leg bleeding, and seizing!
Tommy was immediately rushed to the vet where he was temporarily treated for his wounds. The vet declared that Tommy had been neglected for many years-- he had ear infections, a massive hematoma, a missing patch of fur, AND a broken leg! Thus, he was scheduled for euthanasia.
A very kind-hearted San Gabriel shelter employee could not see him be put to sleep after all he had endured. He deserved a chance... .
With the generous donation from RUFF, Tommy was treated for his leg, ears, and the vet even did blood work on him in which the results came out normal. Our vet thinks his seizures during the accident was a result of sudden trauma. So far, we have not seen Tommy seize... and he has a clean bill of health! His purple cast will be removed in another 6-8 weeks, but aside from that, Tommy is happy! He survived the accident and he overcame his challenges. A miraculous happening for all of us-- we cannot thank you enough. He will be up for adoption in the months to follow. (currently, he is being shown at local adoption events)
